How To: Organize Your Recipes

To keep your recipes organized and safeguard against spills, store them in a binder full of 8-1/2 x 11 pocket laminated sheets, found at any large retailer or office supplies store (Target, Wal-mart, Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc.).

You will need:

  • 1 binder that can hold between 200-300 8-1/2 x 11 sheets
  • 2 sets (about 200) clear vinyl pocket laminated sheets (usually found by the paper aisle)
  • Subject dividers, labeled however you like (for example: “entertaining”, “desserts”, etc.)
  • Computer or lined paper to handwrite or print your recipes

Alternatively, if you have a collection of index cards, get clear page inserts that accomodate multiple index cards on one page. Or, use double-sided tape to attach cards to a piece of paper, then slide the paper into a page protector and add it to your folder.

Once organized, this is a very useful way to keep your personal recipes and magazine cut-outs all in one place. It is also a good idea to buy extra laminated sheets for adding to your growing collection! I started organizing this way just a few months ago and didn’t think my recipe binder would be nearly as full as it’s becoming!

    i have been doing this for years-love it. then once in a while i go through them and purge out recipes i shouldn’t have bothered with anyway

    That’s how I have mine organized :) I have 2 binders full and I’m working on another set of recipes to print out!

    I converted my mom and grandma to this way of storing recipes too. My recipe cards used to get ruined so easily and now with the sheet protectors, I can write on them with a dry-erase marker or accidentally spill something and just wipe it off :)

    I had made one about 15 years ago. But time for new recipes that are healthier
